I just saw a post on cartoon brew that had artwork by Tom Whelan, which were really cool.

Another thing to check out is Bobby Chiu's book called "The Perfect Bait". It was inspirational and positive, and kind of reminded me of a quote from Jim Henson:

Lou Romano has a blog with a bunch of movie stills. This is kind of what I had intentioned for this blog. The movies and shots he chose really are beautiful and dramatic. It's definitely something you need to check out. Then there's of course his blog. He's an amazing artist. My friend sent him some questions for a school project back in college, and he responded in detail right away. Ever since then, I've had even more respect for him. Anyway, I've been neglecting my blogs. I'll try to get back to posting more regularly.

Pretty much needs no introduction. I figured I should do a post with some images of his work especially considering his passing last Monday. I just found out today.Although I didn't study his work as closely as other artists have, I certainly can recognize his solid sense of composition and dramatic lighting. He was an artist who has been very influential for animators and illustrators alike.

I like what he wrote about his opinions on what makes a good villain. Villains usually are more interesting to me than the hero. I like their flaws and that they usually go all out to an extreme to make a point or to get what they want. Anyway, here are some of my favorite evil characters:

Frollo from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame ("Hellfire" sequence):

Jack Torrence from "The Shining":

The Joker from "The Dark Knight":

Anton Chigurh from "No Country for Old Men":

I also really love Snape's character from the Harry Potter books. You learn more of his backstory in the last book (The Deathly Hallows). I can't wait for that movie to come out. I am really excited to see how they adapt it. I literally cried in one chapter of the last book. It's just an overall great story.

It's like watching a magic. So here's a fun video watch (note that it's over a full minute, all in one shot, and it's completely engaging).

The Little Mermaid

The first post I had wanted to do for this blog was a movie that has had a major impact on my life: The Little Mermaid. It hooked me on animation when I was a kid. I therefore thought it fitting to start with that film for this blog. However, I got through half the film and ended up with 1,139 images! Holy Crap! It took a long time to compile them together and post them up. I do not believe I will be able to go through the rest of the film...maybe some point later. The next posts will have fewer screen grabs, but ones that would be worth looking at. I just got a little carried away with this one.

I'm actually looking for some cool posters for my apartment, and I came across a bunch of cool Pixar posters that were made by this artist called Eric Tan. He's done several posters that seem inspired by old travel posters and also the old Disney World rides. I really love his style.

The one poster I would love to get my hands on is the one, but it's not on sale. It was given at comic con, but I couldn't go. :(
